How to creat thumbnail for folder in Windows

On all operating systems, folders are a useful file format for you to classify, manage, and organize episodes by category, for example, music, videos, photos, regular documents, … easily and conveniently.

Especially many people have a habit of using it as a place to store, hide important documents, study materials … and do not want to let anyone know.

As you know, Windows 10 has the feature of using thumbnails of the first 2 files as thumbnails for the whole folder, which inadvertently reveals the files you want hide in there.

So how to do ? Don’t worry, in this article I will show you how to set thumbnails for any folder on Windows 7 and Windows 10.

Set thumbnail for folder in Windows

Step 1:

The way is very simple, first right-click on the icon of the folder you want to set your own thumbnail image → select Properties, for example, the SQL folder.

Step 2: Select Customize tab → Choose File → Find the image you want to set thumbnail

The image here supports all formats, so if you’re concerned about formatting, don’t worry, usually we only use popular formats like JPG, PNG, ICO, etc.

Select done then click OK to apply changes and this setting will take effect immediately without having to restart Windows 7 and Windows 10

Restore the folder image to default

If you do not want to use the thumbnail image that you have set yourself, and you want to restore to thumbnail images by default, it is very easy.

The fastest way is to copy all the files in that folder to another folder and then delete it.

But if the files in that folder are important and large, you can restore them by opening the Properties window again → switch to the Customize tab → and click Restore default → select OK
